Steelheart

Just a Taste EP

  1. LOL (Laughing Out Loud)
  2. Twisted Future
  3. Buried Unkind
  4. We All Die Young

The new material is much heavier than I expected, but he is definitely going for a deeper vibe. All three of the new tracks have less focus on the guitar than the songs on the original two Steelheart releases. I mean it's in there, but the songs are not riff-oriented. Rather they are built around a groove -- big drums, big bass, and of course, his voice. In addition, there is also a whole orchestrated section in track two and Beatles-esque keyboard in track three ... It's got traces of Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and a bit of that psychadelic vibe that killed Crimson Glory. They are what I would call very BIG songs. There is a lot going on and a lot to digest and it's all very well done, but at the end of it ... I like it, but I find it hard to remember. The songs are good, but they just aren't catchy. In any case, he's got my attention. He can still sing and the songs are definitely interesting, so I personally will be getting the new cd when it comes out. Just be warned, this isn't the I'll Never Let You Go Steelheart you remember. --Scott
