Tipping their hat to the late punk and early glam that played in the famous 70’s Hollywood club from which they took their name, Starwood is a throwback band with a modern twist. It’s not a new idea, but they’ve executed it better than most. Leaning heavily on stripped down, simplified riffs and catchy melodies, this should appeal to fans of everything from Cheap Trick to Vain. And while they could stand on their own in this genre, I would be remiss not to point out their most obvious, and curious, draw. Starwood is actually Lizzy Borden. It’s not an angle they’re trying to cash in on. In fact they aren’t even mentioning it in the press releases and Lizzy didn’t list his famous last name on the cd credits. Frankly most Lizzy Borden fans probably wouldn’t like this, but I do. It’s well written, well played and well produced, and while I hope this isn’t a permanent change for Lizzy, (cuz I loved his last cd) it’s definitely an interesting change of pace. --Scott
