Lawless still has one of the most unique voices in rock and the man knows how to write a song. It’s hard to ignore the similarity between Neon God and Crimson Idol, in not only name, but in music and theme too. The story of a boy who didn’t get the love from his parents but grows up looking for acceptance and ends up finding fame and followers instead. Musically it’s also more of the same. A lot of soft guitar intros and whispered vocals that boil over into power chords, big Banali drum rolls and Blackie once again mournfully screaming for love. Despite the familiarity of it all, or hell, maybe because of it, I really like this album. W.A.S.P. has returned to what they do best. If you liked the Crimson Idol, you’ll like The Neon God. --Scott
