Sticking to the same bluesy classic rock feel that was so successful for them on their debut Badlands forged ahead with more of the same. Unfortunately these songs just weren’t as good. There are some fun and experimental things on this cd including a cover of James Taylor’s Fire and Rain, but something’s missing. The rhythm section is tight and the production is sharp. Ray’s voice is still great and Jake’s playing is inspired as always, but it just sounds like there wasn’t as much thought put into these songs. That doesn’t go for all of them. In fact, The Last Time and Silver Horses are better than a lot of the songs on their first cd, but most of the others come up short. --Scott
